Atiku laments ‘unacceptable’ death of Nigerians in Abuja-Nyanya-Keffi tanker explosion

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic tanker explosion at Karu Bridge along the Abuja-Nyanya-Keffi Highway, describing it as an unacceptable and recurring tragedy that has claimed numerous innocent lives and destroyed properties.

In a statement on Wednesday, Atiku lamented the increasing frequency of such incidents, citing a similar explosion at Otedola Bridge in Lagos just two weeks ago.

He called for immediate action to address the crisis, stressing that tanker explosions must be treated as a national emergency.

“How many more lives must be lost before decisive action is taken?” he questioned, urging the Federal Government to set up a high-powered presidential panel to investigate the causes of these explosions and implement urgent safety measures to prevent future occurrences.

Atiku also extended condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the latest incident and called on authorities to provide free and comprehensive medical care to the injured.

“My heart goes out to the victims and their families. May they find strength in this difficult time, and may the souls of the departed rest in peace,” he said.

The explosion has once again raised concerns about road safety, tanker regulations, and emergency response mechanisms in Nigeria, with many calling for stricter enforcement of safety measures to prevent future tragedies.
