Atiku-Obi alliance no match for Tinubu in 2027 — Presidency

By Kunle Sanni –

The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has downplayed the chances of a potential joint presidential ticket between former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party’s 2023 candidate, Peter Obi, stating it poses no threat to President Bola Tinubu’s bid for re-election in 2027.

Speaking on Thursday during an appearance on Arise TV’s Prime Time programme, Onanuga described the alliance as premature and politically insignificant.

“They are free to form alliances, but as far as the APC is concerned, we are not seeing them as any threat,” he said.

“If you merge Peter Obi and Atiku together, there is no way the two of them can beat a Bola Tinubu and Shettima ticket. It is going to be impossible.”

His comments come on the heels of reports by Daily Trust that the opposition coalition — which includes Atiku, Obi, former Osun State governor Rauf Aregbesola, ex-Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai, and former Senate President David Mark — has adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its platform ahead of the 2027 elections.

Onanuga asserted that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) remains confident in its electoral strength, citing President Tinubu’s achievements as the foundation of its 2027 campaign strategy.

“They are jumping the gun; it is not yet time for politicking,” he added.
