Atletico edge Barcelona 4–3 to seal Copa del Rey final spot

Barcelona threatened an epic comeback against Atletico Madrid but ultimately fell short, as the holders exited the Copa del Rey at the semi-final stage after a dramatic 4–3 aggregate defeat.
Two goals from Marc Bernal, either side of a Raphinha penalty, gave the home side hope of a remarkable turnaround. However, they were unable to find a fourth goal to force extra time despite sustained late pressure.
Diego Simeone’s side held on to secure their place in the final, where they will face the winner of Real Sociedad and Athletic Club, who meet in the other semi-final tie on Wednesday.
Hansi Flick’s men started with intent, pressing the visitors from the outset and testing Juan Musso with a flurry of efforts.
The breakthrough came in the 29th minute when superb work from Lamine Yamal down the left created space. The teenage star delivered a cross for 18-year-old Bernal to tap home after finding himself unmarked in the area. The goal sparked belief inside the stadium that a comeback could be on the cards.
Antoine Griezmann was Atletico’s brightest spark and struck the post before the offside flag was raised. Ademola Lookman also spurned a decent chance, steering his effort wide.
In first-half stoppage time, Pedri was brought down by Clement Lenglet in the penalty area, and Raphinha calmly converted the resulting spot-kick, sending Musso the wrong way.
Marcus Rashford came off the bench as Barcelona chased more goals, but it was Bernal who struck again, turning in Joao Cancelo’s cross with 18 minutes remaining to register his fourth goal in as many games.
