Atletico Madrid hands Lookman jersey number 22

Atletico Madrid’s newly acquired forward, Ademola Lookman, is settling down quickly with the Spanish side after signing on Monday.

The Nigerian international penned a four-year deal with the La Liga giants, bringing to an end his search for a new club following his time with Italian Serie A side Atalanta.

The Super Eagles striker has picked up the No. 22 jersey for Atletico Madrid, signalling his readiness for action in the colours of the Spanish club.

Lookman joined Atletico on transfer deadline day after the La Liga side secured his signature ahead of Galatasaray, which had been touted as his likely destination.

Atletico coughed up €35 million, plus add-ons, to Atalanta for the services of the former African Footballer of the Year.

Lookman, who scored a hat-trick in the 2024 Europa League final, will be with the Spanish side until 2030.

The 2025 AFCON bronze winner is expected to make his debut in Thursday’s Copa del Rey clash against Real Betis.

Third in La Liga, the team now eyes a title push and Champions League action, with fans thrilled by the midfield and attacking refresh.
