Auto crash claims 10 lives in Kwara

Ten persons were on Thursday evening, killed in a fatal multiple auto accident in the Ile Pupa area, along Jebba-Bode Saadu Expressway in Kwara State.

WesternPost gathered that the accident was caused by wrong overtaking and speed violations.

It was also gathered that three vehicles were involved in the crash, while the dead included seven male adults, one female adult and two female children.

The incident, which happened at about 6:30 p.m., involved 17 persons, including 12 male adults, two female adults, one male child and two female children.

According to the First Information Report (FIR) of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the three vehicles involved in the accident included one JAC petroleum tanker, belonging to Danmarna Petroleum Limited, a Toyota Corolla with registration number AKD 734FX and Volkswagen Sharan vehicle with registration number GWA22DD.

Speaking on the incident, the FRSC sector commander, Frederick Ogidan, said the sum of N60,750 was recovered from the scene of the crash.

He also said that survivors sustained varying degrees of injury such as bruises and cuts, adding that the injured ones had been taken to Shalom Hospital, Bode Saadu, while corpses of the dead were deposited at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) mortuary.

He said that Police officers from Jebba Divisional Unit had taken custody of the vehicles involved in the accident.
