Aviation industry leaders applaud FAAN’s leadership for positive reforms

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) under the leadership of Managing Director/Chief Executive Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku has been praised for its committed efforts to improve federal airports across the country.

Vice President of the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) and Chief Executive Officer of Air Peace, Dr. Allen Onyema, delivered a vote of confidence in FAAN’s management during a meeting convened by the Authority at the New Terminal of Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos. The meeting, held on Tuesday, was attended by executives from 20 airlines and focused on addressing key issues within the aviation industry.

Mrs. Kuku organized the meeting to share FAAN’s strategic plans for airport development with AON members and to gather feedback aimed at enhancing service delivery for passengers. In her opening presentation, she outlined FAAN’s immediate priority programs, which include Safety, Security, Culture Transformation, Digital Transformation, Service Quality, and Revenue Generation.

She also emphasized her goal of making FAAN one of the leading airport management companies in sub-Saharan Africa within the next decade, stressing the importance of collaboration with AON to achieve this vision.

Responding to Mrs. Kuku’s presentation, Dr. Onyema expressed satisfaction with FAAN’s approach under Mrs. Kuku and Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo SAN, highlighting the transparency and commitment to improvement.

“When government does what is wrong, you can say it, but what is happening in FAAN is commendable,” Onyema stated. “The desire to do good is very, very transparent. You can see it. So, why won’t we have confidence in the system? This is no more fighting time; this is time for collaboration.”

The meeting also saw contributions from FAAN’s top officials, including Director of Engineering Services, Engineer Abiola Muniru Adejare; Director of Airport Operations, Captain Abdullahi Mahmood; Director of Special Duties, Mr. Henry Agbebire; and Director of Aviation Security Services, ACP Afegbai Albert Igbafe (Rtd). Each provided insights into ongoing efforts to improve service quality at the airports.

Key resolutions from the meeting included the need for more frequent engagements between FAAN and AON, quicker responses to AON correspondences, further improvements in airport infrastructure, and the digitalization of revenue collection.

The Authority was also urged to maintain its current trajectory of providing high-quality services, which has been acknowledged by both airline operators and passengers.
