Babayemi to appeal Court of Appeal judgement on Osun PDP guber ticket

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aspirant in the just concluded governorship election in Osun State, Dotun Babayemi has disclosed his plans to seek redress at the Supreme Court after the Court of Appeal sitting in Akure confirmed Ademola Adeleke as the authentic candidate of the party.

Babayemi had sued the PDP, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Senator Adeleke seeking the validation of his candidature as the authentic gubernatorial candidate of the party for the July 16 election, won by Adeleke.

In its ruling on Wednesday, the appellate court dismissed Babayemi’s case on technical grounds.

However, in a statement issued by his Media Office, Babayemi said that the judgement was being evaluated with a view to knowing the next line of action to take.

He maintained that unless some factors that necessitated the litigation were looked into by the party hierarchy, he might explore redress at the Supreme Court.

“We are evaluating all available options and shall act in the best interest of our people,” the PDP stalwart insisted.

Babayemi stressed further that taking this route became necessary in view of the circumstances that surrounded the party’s affairs in the state in the last few years.

“Rest assured that for the common good of our party and the people of the state, we shall take a decision about the best way forward, including a possible appeal at the Supreme Court which is highest court of the land,” he added.
