Babcock University bans dreadlocks, beards, hair passes ahead of exams

Babcock University has introduced a new and stricter dress and grooming code for its students ahead of forthcoming examinations, banning dreadlocks, beards and other unapproved hairstyles.
In a statement issued on Thursday and signed by Olanivi Arije, Vice President for Student Development, the university announced the immediate cancellation of all hair-pass tags. These passes, previously used by some students as waivers for specific hairstyles, were described as illegal and invalid.
The management stated that possession or use of any hair-pass does not grant students the right to maintain unapproved hairstyles on any of the university’s campuses. It added that the circulation or recognition of such passes in any form has been outlawed with immediate effect.
According to the statement, the new regulations will take full effect at the start of the second semester in January and will be strictly enforced across all campuses.
Students currently in possession of any form of hair-pass or exemption have been directed to discontinue its use immediately. The university warned that any student found presenting or relying on such documents would be investigated and sanctioned in line with institutional regulations.
Under the revised guidelines, male students are prohibited from keeping voluminous or unkempt hair, beards and dreadlocks. Female students are barred from wearing extreme, indecent or inconsistent hairstyles.
The university also listed several prohibited clothing items, including body-hugging outfits, sleeveless blouses or dresses, sagging trousers, and baggy, boot-cut or over-length trousers. In addition, tying scarves to corporate or official academic wear is banned at certain times. It further stated that outfits such as bubu, danshiki, joggers, sportswear and walk-out wear are not permitted during stipulated periods on campus.
The management warned that students found in possession of any prohibited items would face disciplinary action, stressing that no excuses, appeals or claims of ignorance would be entertained.
