Bayelsa set to inaugurate power plant, 630-metre bridge, road projects in April

The Bayelsa State Government has announced plans to inaugurate key infrastructure projects, including an independent power plant, a 630-metre bridge, and a dual carriage road, in April.
Governor Douye Diri disclosed this on Tuesday during the March edition of the monthly Praise Night at the King of Glory Chapel, Government House, Yenagoa, noting that the 60-megawatt gas-fired turbine plant would undergo a test run before its inauguration by President Bola Tinubu.
Diri said the power project, located in Elebele community in Ogbia Local Government Area, is expected to boost socio-economic development and stimulate industrial growth in the state.

He noted that the project is about 99 per cent completed and commended residents for their patience, as it was initially scheduled for completion in December 2025.
According to the governor, electricity consumption would be metered and billed through a pay-as-you-go system to prevent estimated billing and ensure sustainability.
Diri added that the state currently receives a maximum of 24 megawatts from the national grid, stressing that the new plant would significantly improve power supply and support small and medium-scale enterprises.

“The state’s gas turbine project is 99 per cent completed. We are bringing the President to inaugurate it, and with what I have seen, April will not pass us by. For 30 years, there has not been steady power supply in our state, but we are bringing 60 megawatts, which is far more than what we currently receive from the national grid,” he said.
The governor also said the 630-metre Angiama-Oporoma bridge and a newly constructed dual carriageway linking New Yenagoa City to the NLNG Road at Gbarantoru are ready for inauguration, adding that the projects would improve connectivity and ease traffic, while the first phase of the Nembe-Brass road is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
