Behold! The 8 Lagos West lawmakers capable of emerging as new Speaker

As the leadership saga in the Lagos State House of Assembly continues, there are strong indications that any of the eight ranking lawmakers from the Lagos West Senatorial District may emerge as the New Speaker as the All Progressives Congress leadership in the state has decided that the new Speaker must come from the zone.
In this report, WESTERN POST takes a closer look at the eight legislators.
- Hon. Setonji Samuel David (Badagry 2
Engr. (Hon) Setonji David is a third term lawmaker representing Badagry Constituency 2.

He has been in the House since 2015. David, a retired civil servant and engineer, served as Chairman, House Committee on Physical Planning and Urban Development from 2015 to 2019. When he was re-elected for the second term, he served as Chairman, House Committee on Information, Strategy and Security from 2019 to 2023.
In 2023 when he was re-elected for a third term, he was made the Deputy Chief Whip, a position he held till January 2025 when he was appointed Chief Whip following the removal of Speaker Mudashiru Obasa.
His background is in civil engineering. He was a civil servant for over 25 years, serving in various ministries within the Lagos State Government before retiring in 2014.
- Hon. Temitope Adewale (Ifako-Ijaye 1)
Hon. Temitope Adedeji Adewale, a ranking lawmaker, represents Ifako-Ijaye 1 Constituency.

He was elected into the House in 2019 and served as Chairman, House Committee on Transportation from 2019 till January this year when he was elected Majority Leader in the change of guard that saw Obasa’s ouster as Speaker.
Adewale is an Estate Management Consultant and Facility Management expert with a wealth of experience in management.
He is a promoter of youth inclusion in political leadership. Adewale is very young and brilliant with vast experience in public sector governance.
Before his election into the House in 2019, Adewale served as Senior Special Assistant to Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola on Transportation between 2012 and 2013.
He was moved to the position of Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Budget Delivery between 2013 and 2014.
In 2014, Adewale served as Senior Special Assistant on Work & Infrastructure to Governor Fashola. He has both executive and legislative experience.
- Hon. Kehinde Olaide Joseph (Alimosho 2)
Hon. Joseph popularly called KJ among his peers and supporters in his constituency, is a ranking lawmaker representing Alimosho 1.

He was elected in 2019. He is a strong politician and public administrator who previously served as Personal Assistant to a former Lagos Assembly member, Hon Olufemi Adebanjo, popularly called “Eye Open”.
Between 2015- 2017, he served as Special Adviser to Governor Akinwunmi Ambode on Civic Engagement. In 2018, Governor Ambode moved him to serve as Special Adviser on Housing, a position he held till the end of the administration in 2019.
He had served as Chairman House Committee on Agriculture and also Chairman, House Committee on Public Account (State) before the removal of Speaker Obasa.
Joseph is a trained Public Administrator and fellow of several professional bodies including the Chartered Institute of Public Management of Nigeria (FCPM), and Chartered Institute Of Public Administrator Of Nigeria (FCIA).
- Hon. Richard Adedamola Kasunmu (Ikeja 2)
Hon. Kasunmu is one of the youngest lawmakers in the House, representing Ikeja 2 since 2015.

He is a third term lawmaker who had served as Chairman House Committee on Lands and Chairman, Committee on Youth, Sports and Social Development. In 2021, he was appointed Deputy Majority Leader, a position he holds till date.
He is an Education Administrator and Lawyer by training. Also, he has certifications in Public Administration, School of Management, certified by the Organization for Tourism and Hospitality Management (OTHM) in the United Kingdom.
- Hon. Lukman Saad Olumoh (Ajeromi-Ifelodun 1)
Hon. Olumoh is a two-term lawmaker who has been representing Ajeromi-Ifelodun 1 since 2019.

Olumoh is a prominent politician cum financial expert who has put in more than two decades in investment banking, auditing and taxation.
When elected into the House of Assembly in 2019, Olumoh served as Chairman, Committee on Public Private Partnership (PPP). In 2023, when he was re-elected, he was appointed to Chair the Economic Planning & Budget Committee, a position he held till when Speaker Obasa was removed.
Olumoh is a fellow of the Institute of Credit and Collection Management of Nigeria and also a member of the Institute of Credit Administration.
- Hon. Wale Rauf Age Sulaimon (Amuwo-Odofin 2)
Hon. Age Sulaimon is a ranking member of the House who was elected since 2019 to represent Amuwo-Odofin Constituency 2.

Hon. Age Sulaimon is a grassroots politician and Public Relations expert.
During his first term, Age-Sulaiman was a member of the House Committee on Local Government and Community Affairs. He was also appointed as the chairman of the reconstituted House Committees on Procurement.
In 2023, after his victory at the election tribunal where he reclaimed his mandate to return for second term, he was appointed as the Chairman, House Committee on Special Duties, Intergovernmental Relations, and the Central Business District (CBD).
Age-Sulaimon is a trained political scientist with bias in International Relations. He also obtained a masters degree from the Institute of Legislative Studies, Abuja.
- Hon. Nureni Akinsanya (Mushin 1)
Hon. Akinsanya is a two-term lawmaker representing Mushin Constituency 1 since 2019.

He took over from former Deputy Speaker, Hon. Funmilayo Tejuosho, who spent 16 years in the Lagos Assembly.
Akinsanya, popularly called OSMARK among his supporters, during his first term between 2019 and 2023 was appointed as Chairman, House Committee on Physical Planning and Urban Development.
In the 10th Assembly, Akinsanya was the Chairman, House Committee on Public Accounts (Local).
He was also a member of various House committees including economic planning & budget, waterfront infrastructure development, physical planning and urban development, commerce, industry and cooperative, finance, health/primary health care, housing, local government community, rural and chieftaincy and legislative compliance.
- Hon. Surajudeen Tijani ( Ojo 2)
Hon. Tijani (EMIR) is a second term lawmaker from Ojo Constituency 2 who was elected into the House since 2019.

He is a grassroots politician cum transport businessman who is quick to learn and understand the legislative process and procedures.
During his first term, Tijani was Chairman, House Committee on House Services and member of various standing and ad-hoc committees. Also, after his re-election in 2023, he chaired the same House Committee till January 2025 when Obasa was removed as Speaker.
His profile on Facebook shows that he attended Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, Ogun State and the Ekiti State University where he obtained higher education degrees.
