Benue to implement N70,000 minimum wage
…Declares curfew on night ceremonies
Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has announced that his administration is set to implement the Federal Government-approved N70,000 minimum wage for state workers.
Speaking with journalists in Makurdi on Friday, Governor Alia emphasized his administration’s commitment to ensuring efficient governance and the well-being of civil servants, whom he described as the “engine room of government.”
“Despite the harsh economic conditions and stagnation, we have implemented measures to improve functionality. Our Internally Generated Revenue has increased, and we are closing all loopholes to ensure we can meet our financial obligations, including the payment of salaries,” said Governor Alia.
He further stated, “We are fully focused and determined to align with the Federal Government’s approved minimum wage. Without a dedicated workforce, any government lacks stability. Therefore, it is imperative that we pay our civil servants the approved wage.”
Curfew on night ceremonies
The governor also disclosed that the state government has imposed a curfew on various night ceremonies, including wake-keeps, rallies, and other gatherings beyond 10 PM. This measure, according to him, is part of the state’s efforts to maintain public order and safety.
In addition, Governor Alia revealed the delisting of Olofu from the Idoma title, although specific details on this decision were not disclosed.
