Biden offers condolences to Tinubu on Nigeria flooding

U.S. President Joe Biden on Tuesday expressed his condolences to President Bola Tinubu over the severe flooding that has impacted northeastern Nigeria.
In a terse statement published on the U.S. government website, President Biden extended his sympathy to those affected and reaffirmed U.S. support for Nigeria’s ongoing relief efforts.
During their conversation, Biden also conveyed appreciation for President Tinubu’s recent role in securing the humanitarian release of American citizen and former U.S. law enforcement official Tigran Gambaryan last week. The leaders discussed the strengthening of the U.S.-Nigeria partnership on critical issues, particularly in advancing global security and economic stability.
Biden highlighted the importance of their collaborative efforts, including the recently launched Bilateral Liaison Group on Illicit Finance and Cryptocurrencies to combat financial crimes, as well as joint initiatives in technology and law enforcement.
According to the statement, both leaders also agreed on the need to amplify African voices within international organizations and aligned their efforts toward reforming global institutions.
