Bimbo Ademoye challenges ‘area boys’ over alleged extortion on film set
Nollywood actress and producer Bimbo Ademoye has spoken out after confronting a group of street thugs who allegedly demanded money from her crew during a film shoot.
The incident, captured in a now-viral video, showed the actress challenging the men, commonly referred to as “area boys”, who insisted that a fixed payment must be made before filming could continue at the location.
Ademoye, who addressed the group in Yoruba, made it clear that she would not be intimidated or coerced into making payments under pressure.
Describing herself as familiar with street dynamics, she said she often settles local youths when necessary but rejected the idea of being forced to pay a specific amount.
Speaking in Yoruba, she said, “Omo Igboro ni mi” (I am a child of the streets), before explaining that while she understands street dynamics and often settles area boys, no one has the right to demand a fixed amount from her.
“To ba di oro street, e bere lowo won, mo ma n like kin settle awon boys, but you don’t come to me and tell me to give you a certain amount,” she added.
She also questioned what she described as a growing sense of entitlement among some individuals who attempt to extort film crews.
The actress stressed that no one has the authority to compel her to part with money, insisting that any support she offers is voluntary.
