Bimbo Akintola’s performances make me rethink my craft — Funke Akindele

Nigerian filmmaker and actress Funke Akindele has praised veteran actress Bimbo Akintola, saying her performances continually challenge her to become better at her craft.

Akindele made the remark during her Creative Blueprint 2.0 masterclass held in Lagos, where she reflected on her journey in the film industry and the influences that have shaped her career.

In a video from the event that has since gone viral, the filmmaker described Akintola as a deeply talented actress whose work often makes her reassess her own abilities.

“There’s only one actor that I always shake for. If she acts, I rethink my career… Bimbo Akintola. She’s deep,” Akindele said.

She noted that Akintola’s acting style, including her expressions, voice modulation and emotional depth, stands out and serves as a learning point for her.

Akindele added that studying Akintola’s performances has encouraged her to keep improving and remain committed to growth in the highly competitive film industry.

Akintola, who has been active in Nollywood since the mid-1990s, is widely recognised for her roles in films such as Owo Blow, Out of Bounds, Diamond Ring, 93 Days and The Black Book.
