‘Black race is not lazy’ — Tinubu declares as Saint Lucia honours him

By Kunle Sanni –
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared that the Black race is not lazy but full of hardworking and honest people who excel when given the opportunity. He made this remark after receiving Saint Lucia’s highest national honour during his historic state visit to the Caribbean nation.
Speaking at the formal investiture ceremony in Castries on Monday night, Tinubu was conferred with the title Knight Commander of the Order of Saint Lucia (KCOSL) by the Governor-General.
“The Black race is not lazy. We are hardworking, honest people. Given the opportunity, we can excel. Life has already given us what we need,” Tinubu stated.
The Nigerian leader, now officially addressed as Sir Bola Ahmed Tinubu, KCOSL (Hon.), described the honour as a profound symbol of unity between Africa and the Caribbean.
“I am deeply honoured, on behalf of my country and over 220 million Nigerians. I came here as a president; I am leaving as a knight,” Tinubu said.
The Governor-General noted that the conferment recognises Tinubu’s leadership in Africa and his efforts to strengthen ties between Africa and the Caribbean.
Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, Philip J. Pierre, commended Tinubu for accepting the honour and for his commitment to fostering stronger connections between Nigeria and the member states of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS).
