Blackout as National grid suffers collapse

The national electricity grid suffered a collapse on Wednesday, resulting in widespread power outages across parts of the country.

This was confirmed by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) in a public notice dated September 10, 2025, and posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle.

According to the company, the outage occurred at 11:23 a.m. due to a loss of supply from the national grid, affecting electricity supply across its franchise areas.

“Please be informed that the power outage currently being experienced is due to a loss of supply from the national grid at 11:23 a.m. today, affecting electricity supply across our franchise areas,” the notice read.

The AEDC assured customers that efforts were underway to restore power as soon as the grid stabilises.

“Rest assured, we are working closely with the relevant stakeholders to ensure power is restored once the grid is stabilised. Thank you for your patience and understanding,” the company added.
