Bode George calls for unity in PDP, ahead 2027 elections

Former Deputy National Chairman (South) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bode George, has called on the opposition party to urgently address internal issues threatening its survival, warning that failure to do so could jeopardize its chances of reclaiming power from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.
George made the remarks during a press conference in Lagos on Thursday, organized to mark his 79th birthday. The PDP stalwart lamented the party’s current state, citing internal divisions fueled by selfish interests and disloyalty among members as major impediments.
“All is not well with our party. In fact, our party is derailing,” George said. “The crisis in our party has further complicated the present tragedy in the socio-economic indices of our dear nation. I am raising the alarm today that our party is at the precipice of a dangerous looming crisis if pending critical issues are not urgently addressed.”
George expressed disappointment that the party, once regarded as a strong political force, is now a “shadow of itself” due to the actions of members he described as “desperados” with dual loyalties. He accused some members of undermining the party’s leadership while secretly aligning with the APC.
“They have one leg in PDP and another leg in APC. Such chameleonic characters are the ones trying to dictate the direction of this party,” he said. “This pretension must be stopped immediately by patriotic members of this party.”
George said the party’s founding fathers would be heartbroken to witness its decline and called for urgent action during the PDP’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for November 28 in Abuja.
The elder statesman emphasized that the PDP’s survival depends on unity, justice, and fairness. He warned that divisive tendencies within the party must be eradicated to achieve success in 2027.
“Unless we are united, with equity, fairness, and justice being the pedestal for any political decision taken, this party will be heading to disaster in 2027,” he said.
George also urged the party to seize the opportunity to present itself as a credible alternative to the APC, highlighting the economic and social challenges currently facing Nigerians.
“With the suffering in the land and the mismanagement of the economy, Nigerians are waiting for us in 2027 to kick APC out of Aso Rock,” he said.
The PDP chieftain concluded by reiterating the need for self-reflection and decisive action to rescue the party from what he described as a “self-destructive journey” and ensure it is positioned to lead Nigeria towards progress.
