BPP new DG orders review of government procurement systems, commits to efficiency

The Director General of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), Dr. Adebowale Adedokun, has outlined his vision to enhance operational efficiency, improve staff welfare, and strengthen the Bureau’s regulatory mandate.

Speaking during an interactive session with staff at the State House Banquet Hall on November 20, 2024, Dr. Adedokun reaffirmed the Bureau’s commitment to supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda and advancing Nigeria’s economy.

“We must work together to ensure value for money in Nigeria’s developmental processes and fulfill President Tinubu’s vision of a stronger economy,” Dr. Adedokun said. He emphasized the importance of building public trust in the government procurement system while delivering tangible results.

As part of his reform agenda, the DG announced key measures to boost operational efficiency, including the introduction of Service Level Agreements to ensure prompt processing of letters within three days and completion of reports within 14 days. He also revealed plans to secure a sustainable budget to improve working conditions and enhance staff welfare.

Dr. Adedokun stressed the need for strict regulatory compliance, warning against unauthorized visits to Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) and prohibiting contractors from accessing the Bureau’s premises. “Officers of the Bureau must remain above board and be guided by procurement processes,” he stated.

Encouraging collaboration, the DG called on staff to embody excellence and avoid delays in procurement processes. He assured them of an open-door policy to foster innovation and propel the Bureau to greater heights.

The session also featured remarks from former BPP DG, Engr. Emeka Ezeh, who led the Bureau from 2009 to 2016. Engr. Ezeh praised President Tinubu for appointing Dr. Adedokun and urged staff to support the new leadership. “Work in a way that you will be celebrated wherever you go in life,” he advised.

Senior Directors, including Engr. Nasir Bello and Engr. Isaiah Yesufu, reiterated their commitment to the DG’s vision and emphasized adherence to operational guidelines. Staff welcomed the session, offering insights for improvement and pledging support for the new leadership.

In a related development, Dr. Adedokun met with Mr. O’tega Ogra, Head of the Presidential Office of Digital Engagement and Strategy (PODES), on November 21, 2024, to discuss collaboration on enhancing the Bureau’s public engagement.

Mr. Ogra, who also serves as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Digital/New Media, congratulated Dr. Adedokun on his appointment and pledged support to amplify the Bureau’s communication efforts.
