BREAKING: APC National Chairman Ganduje resigns, cites health challenges

By Kunle Sanni –

Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has resigned from his position, effective immediately.

Ganduje, a former governor of Kano State, cited health reasons for his resignation, saying he needs to prioritise his well-being.

His resignation letter was submitted on Friday and is expected to be formally acknowledged by the party’s leadership.

However, party insiders suggest that his resignation is the result of mounting pressure from within the APC.

Sources familiar with the matter allege that Ganduje was forced to step down due to internal discontent, particularly over his handling of the recent North East stakeholders’ meeting.

The meeting, which endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term, failed to mention Vice President Kashim Shettima as a potential running mate — a perceived slight that reportedly angered some Northern governors and Shettima’s allies.

Party officials say Ganduje is being blamed for the fallout, with critics accusing him of mismanaging the sensitive political situation, leading to tensions within the party and strained relations with the presidency.

Following his resignation, party affairs are expected to be handed over to the APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, who may serve as acting chairman pending further decisions by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC).
