The Nigerian Army has announced the elimination of three senior commanders of the Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terror groups during intense military operations in Borno State.

In a statement posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) account on Thursday, the Army confirmed that the insurgent leaders—Amir Abu Ali, Amir Ibunu, and Amir Abu Waldume—were killed in separate gun battles in Mallam Fatori and Buratai, both located in Borno State, in the North-East region of Nigeria.

“Three prominent Boko Haram/ISWAP leaders—Amir Abu Ali, Amir Ibunu, and Amir Abu Waldume—eliminated in Mallam Fatori and Buratai fierce gun battles,” the post read.

The military described the engagements as fierce and decisive, noting that the successful neutralization of the high-ranking terrorists marks a significant blow to the operational capabilities of the insurgent factions.

No further details were provided regarding the exact timeline of the operations or any casualties on the side of the Nigerian forces.

However, the Army had earlier reported that troops of Operation HADIN KAI neutralised scores of Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists in Mallam Fatori and Buratai in the early hours of Thursday, June 5, 2025.
