BREAKING: Court stops Ondo govt from approving New Aladeokun of Alade-Idanre

An Ondo State High Court sitting in Akure has restrained the State Executive Council from approving the appointment of a new Aladeokun of Alade-Idanre pending the determination of a suit before it.
The order was made by Justice F. S. Akinbinu in a case filed by the Akinboro family of the Lagokun Ruling House, who are challenging the appointment of warrant chiefs by the state government to select a new monarch.
The claimants contended that the appointment of warrant chiefs was unlawful, arguing that the existing kingmakers had already met, formed the required quorum and selected Otunba Ademola Akinboro-Akingbaso as the next Aladeokun.
During proceedings on February 4, counsel to the family, Femi Emmanuel Emodamori, told the court that despite the pending suit, the warrant chiefs allegedly went ahead to appoint Chief Ayo Akinnadeju as Aladeokun at a meeting boycotted by recognised kingmakers.
Lawyers to the warrant chiefs and Akinnadeju confirmed the appointment but opposed the application seeking to restrain the state government from taking further steps on the matter.
Counsel to the kingmakers dissociated them from the actions of the warrant chiefs and did not object to an order maintaining the status quo, while the state government sought time to respond to the motion.
Justice Akinbinu subsequently ordered all parties to maintain the status quo and specifically barred the Executive Council from approving Akinnadeju’s appointment, adjourning the matter to February 18, 2026, for accelerated hearing.
