BREAKING: DSS confirms arrest of suspended CBN Governor Emefiele

The Department of State Services (DSS) has confirmed that suspended Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele is in its custody.

The DSS confirmed this in a statement by its Public Relations Officer, Peter Afunanya on Saturday.

“The Department of State Services (DSS) hereby confirms that Mr Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is now in its custody for some investigative reasons,” part of the statement read.

There had been reports of Emefiele’s arrest by the DSS yesterday after he was suspended by President Bola Tinubu.

The president had in a statement by the Director of Information, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Willie Bassey, announced Emefiele’s suspension, directing him to hand over to Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), who will act as the Central Bank Governor pending the conclusion of the investigation and the reforms.

The DSS, however, in post on its Twitter account Saturday morning, initially denied having Emefiele in its custody.

However, contrary to claims that the suspended CBN governor was arrested on Saturday, WesternPost can confirm that he was picked Friday night.

WesternPost gathered that Emefiele was arrested in Lagos, dressed like Hausa man.

“He was found dressed in simple caftan with Hausa cap, suggesting he may have decided to disguise himself,” a source told WesternPost.

DSS and Emefiele on one occasion engaged in a battle of wits when the service moved to arrest him sometime ago.

Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, Omoyele Sowore, also in a post, said Emefiele was picked up by DSS early Saturday morning.
