BREAKING: Edo Assembly serves Deputy Governor Shuaibu impeachment notice

The Edo State House of Assembly on Wednesday served the Deputy Governor, Philip Shuaibu, a notice of impeachment.

The Majority Leader of the assembly and member representing Ovia North-East One, Charity Aiguobarueghian, announced the decision during the House plenary session on Wednesday.

She said the House had received a petition containing cases of gross misconduct against the Deputy Governor.

WesternPost gathered that 21 out of 24 members of the House signed the impeachment notice.

The move came weeks after Shuaibu organised a parallel Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary in the state.

The notice of impeachment alleges “gross misconduct” on the part of Deputy Governor Shuaibu.

However, specific details regarding the nature of the misconduct have not been outlined.

It would be recalled that Shuaibu and the governor Godwin Obaseki had been at loggerheads since last year when he showed interest in succeeding the governor.
