BREAKING: Explosion rocks Ibadan, damages cars, buildings

A massive explosion shook Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, on Tuesday evening, causing widespread damage and panic among the residents.

According to Channels Television, witnesses reported that the blast was so powerful that it destroyed cars and buildings in several areas, including Awolowo, Bodija, and Akobo.

The exact number of victims was unknown at the time of writing.

Saheed Akiode, the South-West Zonal Coordinator for the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), who spoke with Channels Television on the phone, confirmed that emergency teams, such as the Oyo State Fire Service, had arrived at the site of the blast on Awolowo Way by Adeyi Avenue, behind a Central Mosque, in Bodija.

The Oyo State Government also acknowledged the incident on X (formerly Twitter) and asked the residents to stay calm.

“The government is aware of reports of an explosion in the state. Security agencies are investigating this to determine the source and cause of the incident,” the statement read.
