BREAKING: Kwankwaso meets Makinde in Ibadan amid 2027 political calculations
The National Leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso, is presently in a closed-door meeting with Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, at the Government House in Ibadan, in what appears to signal fresh political alignments ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Sources within the Oyo State Government House confirmed that the meeting began earlier in the day, although details of the deliberations were not disclosed as of press time.
Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano State and presidential candidate of the NNPP in the 2023 general election, arrived at the Government House amid heightened political interest, with observers closely monitoring possible shifts in the nation’s political landscape.
The meeting comes at a time of increasing consultations among key political actors across party lines, fuelling speculation that discussions may be centred on coalition-building and strategic partnerships ahead of the next general election cycle.
Governor Makinde, a leading figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has recently been active in high-level political engagements. He had earlier met with former military president, Ibrahim Babangida, alongside former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), in what was widely interpreted as consultations on the country’s political future.
While neither Kwankwaso nor Makinde has officially commented on the purpose of the visit, political analysts say such engagements could signal early manoeuvring ahead of 2027.
More details are expected to emerge as political consultations continue in the coming months.
