BREAKING: Ondo tertiary institutions suspend warning strike after government assurances

By Boye Oyeyemi –

Workers under the Joint Action Committee of Ondo State-Owned Tertiary Institutions (JAC-ODSTI) have suspended their 14-day warning strike following a meeting with the state government on Tuesday.

The unions involved include the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT), and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics (SSANIP).

In a joint statement signed by Comrade Tayo Ogungbeni (Chairman) and Comrade Kunle Akinwonmi (Secretary), the union leaders confirmed that the strike was suspended after key resolutions were reached with the government.

These resolutions include the immediate directive by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for the release of the final tranche of the wage award to workers.

The government also gave a firm commitment to pay outstanding subventions from January 2017 owed to the state’s three universities and approved an upward review of monthly subventions to the institutions after financial assessments.

Following these agreements, the union directed all its members across the state’s tertiary institutions to resume work immediately.
