By Adejayan Gbenga –

The Governing Council of Mufutau Lanihun College of Education (MULCOED), Ibadan, Oyo State, has suspended four top officials, including the Provost, over their alleged involvement in a certificate fraud scandal.

The officials were accused of issuing the College’s Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) certificates to individuals who never attended the institution.

In a statement signed by the Governing Council Chairman, Professor Taslim Hammed, the decision was reached at an emergency meeting held on Saturday, June 28, 2025.

A notice addressed to the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, and copied to the Registrar of JAMB, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, condemned the fraudulent act, describing it as driven by the officials’ “inordinate craving for filthy lucre” without the knowledge or approval of the college’s leadership.

Those suspended with immediate effect include the Provost, Mr. Lawal Musiliu Ayodele; the Registrar, Mr. Adebolu Sirajudeen; the Bursar, Mr. Akanji Abdulrasak; and the Admission Officer, Mr. Jimoh Malik.

“The Council unanimously resolved to allow the rule of law to take its full course, initiating measures including the immediate suspension of the indicted staff and referral of their cases to the College’s Disciplinary Committee,” the statement read.

It added that the Proprietor and the Board have set up a Visitation Panel to conduct a comprehensive audit of the College’s activities, while also pledging full cooperation with JAMB, the Nigeria Police (Oyo State Command), and other relevant agencies investigating the matter.
