President Bola Tinubu has arrived in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, ahead of a crucial visit to Yelewata village and a high-level stakeholders’ meeting aimed at addressing the escalating insecurity in the state.
The President’s visit comes on the heels of renewed violence in parts of Benue, including a deadly attack in Yelewata community, Guma Local Government Area, which left several residents dead, many injured, and dozens displaced.
Upon arrival, President Tinubu is scheduled to proceed immediately to Yelewata, the scene of the recent attack reportedly carried out by armed herders. There, he is expected to meet with families of victims, displaced persons, and community leaders to hear their concerns firsthand and offer federal government support.
The President will also visit injured survivors receiving treatment in a nearby hospital, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and providing relief to affected communities.
Following the community and hospital visits, President Tinubu will return to Makurdi to preside over a stakeholders’ summit at the Benue State Government House Banquet Hall.
The town hall meeting is expected to bring together national and state leaders, including governors from the Middle Belt and North Central regions, the National Security Adviser, service chiefs, and other top security and political figures.
The summit aims to develop a coordinated strategy to end the persistent communal clashes and armed attacks that have disrupted lives and livelihoods in Benue’s rural farming communities for years.
