BREAKING: Tambuwal withdraws from 2027 senatorial race as ADC endorses Yabo

Former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has withdrawn from the race for the Sokoto South Senatorial District seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Following his withdrawal, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has endorsed former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Faruk Yabo, as its consensus candidate for the senatorial contest.

Party stakeholders said the decision followed internal consultations aimed at strengthening unity and consolidating support ahead of the elections.

Tambuwal, who previously contested the presidency under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2023 before stepping down for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, is also undergoing political realignment within the ADC structure in Sokoto State.

In a related development, the ADC has also reached a consensus on its governorship candidate for the state, selecting Manir Muhammad Dan’iya, former deputy governor during Tambuwal’s tenure as governor of Sokoto State, as its flagbearer for the 2027 governorship election.

Party insiders described the decisions as part of efforts to strengthen its electoral chances in the forthcoming polls.
