BREAKING: Team Lagos clinches historic victory at National Youth Games in Asaba

Team Lagos has made history by winning the 9th National Youth Games held in Asaba, securing the overall title for the first time since the inception of the U-15 Championship in 2013.
The landmark achievement saw Lagos end the dominance of Team Delta, who had consistently emerged champions since the Games began.
Team Lagos topped the medals table with 51 gold, 31 silver, and 24 bronze medals. Edo State finished second with 33 gold, 16 silver, and 27 bronze, while Delta State placed third with 32 gold, 36 silver, and 39 bronze medals.

Athletes from Lagos excelled across a wide range of sports including swimming, gymnastics, cycling, boxing, athletics, football, basketball, volleyball, chess, and wushu-kungfu, showcasing the state’s breadth of talent.
The Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Hon. Lekan Fatodu, described the victory as a testament to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to grassroots sports development.
He further highlighted the state’s sustained investments in infrastructure, talent discovery, and athlete development as key to the success.
