BREAKING: Tinubu donates salary, initiates ‘special fund’ to support families of fallen soldiers

President Bola Tinubu has initaited a special appeal fund and donated his salary to support the families of fallen soldiers and personnel injured in service with the Nigerian Armed Forces.

The president made the announcement on Sunday following a birthday prayer session held at the Abuja National Mosque to mark his 74th birthday.

“Today, I have directed the Accountant-General of the Federation to establish a special account for a fund dedicated to those who serve, those wounded in the line of duty, and the families of those who have paid the ultimate price.”

President Tinubu said all his salaries since assuming office will be paid into the fund as seed money, supplementing existing insurance and welfare schemes for military personnel.

“This fund will directly support those who have lost their limbs, and the widows, widowers, and children of those who laid down their lives in service to our dear country,” he added.

The President also called on governors, members of the National Assembly, the private sector, and all well-wishers to support the initiative, promising that details of the fund account would be made available in due course.

He emphasised the moral imperative behind the initiative, saying, “We must never forget those who stand in harm’s way for our peace, nor the sacrifices borne by their families. This is not charity. It is a duty. And we will fulfil it.”

Earlier, President Tinubu had described his birthday as a “solemn day” and called on Nigerians to give thanks to Almighty Allah for their lives and blessings.
