The federal government has agreed to consider the implementation of the 2014 Oronsonye report that would ensure the merging, scrapping and moving of several Ministry Departments and Agencies (MDA’s).

The minister of Information, Mohammed Idris disclosed this on Monday while addressing State House reporters after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting with President Bola Tinubu in Abuja.

Amongst several agencies that would be merged include NACA merged with NCDC; NEMA merged with Commission for refugee migration.

While NIPC has been merged with NEPC; and FRCN to be merged with Radio Nigeria.

Also is the National Theatre which has been merged with the National Troupe of Nigeria.

Idris, therefore, noted that the action would not result in the loss of jobs by civil servants and said that the initiative is in accordance to ensure the reduction in the cost of governance by the President Bola Tinubu led administration.

In 2011, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan established the Presidential Commission on Restructuring and Rationalisation of Federal Government Parastatals, Commissions, and Agencies, led by Stephen Oronsaye. Most of the reports’ substance was rejected due to its “objective” nature.
