Broda Shaggi recounts survival after stray bullet hit his hip

Nigerian comedian and actor Samuel Perry, popularly known as Broda Shaggi, has recounted his frightening experience after a stray bullet hit him in the hip, leaving him uncertain about his future as a performer.

Shaggi shared his experience in a YouTube video published on Wednesday, recalling that the incident occurred on March 9, 2026, while he and his production crew were travelling along the expressway in Sango-Ota, Ogun State.

According to him, they were caught in traffic beneath the Sango-Ota Bridge when he suddenly heard a loud bang. He touched his hip and discovered that he was bleeding before losing consciousness. He said he remembered praying as he was rushed to a hospital and later transferred to another facility because the first lacked the equipment needed to treat him.

The comedian said he became worried when he discovered that he could no longer move his injured leg properly. The development was particularly distressing because dancing, singing and playing drums had been part of his life since childhood.

He also feared that he might never return to performing and that his fans could forget him during his recovery. Having worked almost continuously since 2018, Shaggi said watching videos of his colleagues while wondering whether he would regain his abilities took an emotional toll on him.

Shaggi underwent an initial surgery in Nigeria before travelling to Dubai for further treatment. He credited a doctor identified as Dr. Anil with helping to restore his hope, adding that he eventually began standing with support and walking with crutches.

Although he has yet to recover fully, the comedian expressed gratitude for surviving the shooting. He noted that the outcome could have been far worse if the bullet had struck his head or another vital organ.

Shaggi reassured his fans that he was preparing exciting projects and planned to return to social media with more content. He urged them to celebrate his survival rather than feel sorry for him, ending his message with his familiar expression, “Oya, hit me.”
