Buhari gives $1m in charity to Afghanistan while not funding education – ASUU

Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has accused the Federal Government of being insensitive to the plight of Nigerians while doing charity.

ASUU in a tweet Friday evening noted that the government of Nigeria donated $1m to support humanitarian efforts in Afghanistan at a time Nigerian students are at home.

ASUU has, however, vowed not to enter into any renegotiation of its agreement with the government because the federal government is not willing to pay outstanding commitment to revitalise universities.

“President Muhammadu Buhari has today, donated $1million to Afghanistan to ease their humanitarian situation and to help in catering for the needs of the millions of Afghan people, including women and children. Meanwhile ASUU is still on strike,” the tweet read.

“On the other hand, ASUU has vowed not to renegotiate, says FG is not willing to pay outstanding funds.”

Minister of Labour and Productivity, Dr. Chris Ngige is leading a new round of negotiation with ASUU to end the ongoing strike.
