Businessman to boost Lagos sports with donation of ultra-modern boxing gym

In a significant contribution to the development of sports and youth empowerment in Lagos State, businessman and philanthropist Mr. Omonlei Imadu has pledged to donate an ultra-modern boxing gym to the Lagos State Government. The facility, set to be located at Teslim Balogun Stadium, aims to become a central hub for nurturing the next generation of boxing talent and fostering a vibrant boxing culture in the state.

At a meeting held at the Lagos State Sports Commission Complex in Surulere, the Director General of the Commission, Mr. Lekan Fatodu, lauded the initiative as a crucial step in enhancing the sports infrastructure within Lagos. He emphasized that the donation aligns with the Commission’s strategic objectives of advancing sports development across the state.

“This donation is not just a gift; it’s a pivotal investment in the future of sports in Lagos State,” Fatodu stated. He highlighted that the boxing gym will be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, essential for training elite athletes and fostering a new generation of champions.

Mr. Fatodu also expressed his deep gratitude, noting that the ultra-modern gym would significantly bolster the Commission’s efforts to cultivate homegrown sports talent and elevate Lagos State’s status as a leading sports hub in Nigeria.

Mr. Omonlei Imadu, the donor, reiterated his commitment to giving back to society and supporting grassroots sports development. He stressed the importance of providing young people with opportunities to engage in sports, particularly boxing, as a means of building discipline, resilience, and self-confidence.

“I hope this facility will inspire the next generation of boxers and contribute to the overall development of sports in Lagos State,” Imadu remarked. He added that the gym would not only produce future champions but also offer a positive and productive environment, steering many youths away from negative influences and towards personal growth and achievement.

The donation is expected to have a lasting impact on Lagos’s sports landscape, contributing to both the social and athletic development of the state’s youth.
