CAF appoints Somali referee for Nigeria-Algeria quarter-final duel

By Tosin Omojola –
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has appointed Somali referee Omar Abdulkadir Artan to handle the AFCON 2025 quarter-final showdown between Nigeria and Algeria.
The Super Eagles will battle the Algerians in Marrakesh on Saturday, in one of the quarter-final matches of the ongoing tournament in Morocco.
Artan is rated as one of the continent’s best and has been selected among the referees for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The match will hold at the Stade de Marrakech, with kick-off slated for 5pm.
The last time both sides met at the AFCON was at the semi-final stage in 2019, with the Algerians winning 2-1, courtesy of Riyad Mahrez’s late free-kick.
