CAF exco member laments Libya’s low representation at CAF hearing

Abdul Hakim Al-Shalmani, a Libyan member of the CAF Executive Committee, expressed disappointment over Libya’s lack of strong representation at the CAF hearing regarding the controversial Libya-Nigeria match.

In a statement published by Libya Akhbar, Al-Shalmani remarked that the hearing scene highlighted a significant disparity in support for the two teams.

He noted that more than 20 representatives attended on behalf of Nigeria, including the Minister of Sports, members of the Nigerian Parliament, and other prominent figures.

In contrast, Al-Shalmani voiced frustration at the absence of official Libyan support, as he was the sole representative for Libya in the case, which he described as “national.” He criticized Libyan officials for neglecting this important matter.

Al-Shalmani emphasized, “While I was representing Libya alone, this issue should have been an opportunity to unite and support the homeland. It is unreasonable for me to appeal to the responsible authorities individually without an official position to support my efforts. This issue affects Libya’s dignity and sporting reputation and requires collective action.”
