The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced a change in venue for this year’s prestigious awards ceremony. While Morocco remains the host, the event, originally set to take place in Marrakech, will now be held in Rabat on December 16 at the iconic Mohammed VI Grand Theatre.
The decision to move the ceremony came after a recommendation from the French Football Federation, following French President Emmanuel Macron’s recent visit to Morocco, where he admired the state-of-the-art facilities and striking design of Rabat’s new theater.
This shift to Rabat is a strategic choice, showcasing one of Morocco’s world-class venues as the nation positions itself to host more major sports events in the future.
Among the top contenders for the 2024 African Footballer of the Year award, Super Eagles and Atalanta winger Ademola Lookman is expected to challenge for the title, aiming to succeed Victor Osimhen.
Other nominees include Morocco’s Ashraf Hakimi and Sofiane Rahimi, who are in contention for Africa’s Best Player, while Yassine Bounou and Brahim Diaz were surprisingly excluded despite impressive seasons with Al Hilal and Real Madrid, respectively.
