CAF postpones CHAN

The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) announced on Tuesday the postponement of the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024, initially scheduled to take place in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, to August 2025.
Significant progress has been made in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda regarding the construction and upgrading of stadiums, training fields, hotels, hospitals, and other infrastructure required to host the tournament successfully.
However, CAF’s Technical and Infrastructure experts, some of whom have been stationed in the host countries, have recommended more time to ensure the infrastructure meets the standards necessary for hosting a successful championship.
CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe expressed gratitude to the Presidents of the three host nations—William Ruto of Kenya, Samia Suluhu Hassan of Tanzania, and Yoweri Museveni of Uganda—for their leadership and commitment to the tournament preparations.
“I am impressed with the ongoing construction and renovations of football infrastructure and facilities in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda,” Motsepe said.
“I am confident that the stadiums, training fields, hotels, hospitals, and other infrastructure will meet CAF standards to host a successful championship in August 2025.”
CAF has scheduled the draw for the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 to take place in Nairobi on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at 8:00 PM Nairobi time.
The exact date for the tournament’s commencement in August 2025 will be announced by CAF in due course.
