CAF postpones Libya-Nigeria AFCON qualifier, to investigate airport incident

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has postponed the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier between Libya and Nigeria following a controversy over the mistreatment of the Nigerian team in Libya.

The match, originally scheduled to take place in Benghazi, was disrupted after the Nigerian contingent faced delays and poor treatment at Al-Abrag International Airport in Labraq. The Nigerian team was reportedly stranded for 12 hours before being forced to return home, halting the fixture.

In a statement issued via its media channel, CAF confirmed the postponement of the match to a yet-to-be-announced date. The football governing body also revealed that the incident has been referred to its competent bodies for further investigation.

CAF expressed concern over the handling of the situation, which left the Super Eagles unable to enter the Libyan capital. The investigation will seek to clarify the circumstances surrounding the delay and determine any necessary actions.

The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has yet to comment on the situation, but the delay has raised questions about the organization of international fixtures and the treatment of visiting teams.

Further updates regarding the rescheduling of the match are expected once the investigation is concluded.
