A 28-year-old carpenter, Ahmed Toheed, has been arraigned before an Akure Magistrate’s Court sitting in Oke-Eda for allegedly raping and killing his 64-year-old grandmother, Mrs. Mulikat Sanni, in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The incident reportedly occurred on September 29, 2025, around 10 p.m. at Onisere Street, Ore.

Toheed was said to have accused his grandmother of witchcraft and blamed her for his misfortunes before the attack.

Police prosecutor Augustine Omhenimhen told the court that the defendant allegedly overpowered the woman, strangled her, and had unlawful carnal knowledge of her.

The charge reads, “That you, Ahmed Toheed ‘m’, on September 29, 2025, at about 10pm, at Onisere Street, Ore, in the Ondo State Magisterial District, did unlawfully strangle one Mulikat Sanni ‘f’, aged 64 years, to death and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 316 and punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

“That you, Ahmed Toheed ‘m’, on the same date, time and place, in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did unlawfully have carnal knowledge of one Mulikat Sanni ‘f’, aged 64 years, and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 357 and punishable under Section 358 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.”

Due to the capital nature of the offences, the court did not take the defendant’s plea.

Defence counsel, Benjamin Adeyanju, requested an adjournment to allow him to file a counter-affidavit.

Magistrate Olateju Odenusi-Fadeyi ordered that the defendant be remanded at the State Criminal Investigation Department and adjourned the case until October 13 for further hearing.
