CHAN 2024: Super Eagles B face Sudan in must win match

By Tosin Omojola –

Nigeria’s Super Eagles Team B returns to action this evening in continuation of their campaign in the African Nations Championship (CHAN).

Kicking off at 6pm at the 15,000 capacity Amaan Stadium, on the Island of Zanzibar, the home based Eagles’ will be up against Sudan, in a match they must win if they nurse the hope of escaping an early exit from the championship.

A 0-1 loss to Senegal in their first game last Tuesday, leaves the team in a precarious position as their hopes of making it through the preliminary stage hangs in the balance.

Admittedly, head coach, Eric Sekou Chelle is aware of the importance of the match, stating during the pre match conference on Monday that anything short of victory will spell doom for the team.

“Tuesday’smatch determines our fate in the tournament. We don’t win, we go home,” said the gaffer, who however assured of the team’s readiness to secure the much needed win.

“We will be ready tomorrow (Tuesday). We had a whole week to train. In reality, it will be better to win and then train, but we will be ready tomorrow. We will have our best game,” the former Malian national team handler said.

The Sudanese will be going into the game with a slight psychological advantage having secured a point in Group D’s opening fixture against Congo and they will strive to build on that against the Nigerians.

The last time both countries met in the CHAN tourney was in 2018 in Morrocco, where the Super Eagles emerged winners via a lone goal victory.
