CHAN 2024: Super Eagles B tackle Congo in Nigeria’s farewell outing

By Tosin Omojola –
It is a farewell outing for Nigeria’s Super Eagles B team as they face Congo in their final Group B match of the tournament.
The Nigerian team has been less than impressive in a championship many had expected them to excel in.
After two matches, the Nigerians have already exited the tournament, despite playing their third game later today.
A 0-1 loss to Senegal in their opening match and a disastrous 0-4 defeat to Sudan ended Nigeria’s run in the championship, extending the wait for a first triumph in the competition.
Meanwhile, South Africa were eliminated from the ongoing CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) after a 3-3 draw with Uganda in their final Group C fixture on Monday.
The result means South Africa join Nigeria and seven other countries—Mauritania, Guinea, Angola, Central African Republic, Zambia, Niger Republic, and Burkina Faso—on the list of teams already knocked out of the competition.
Uganda’s spirited campaign earned them the top spot in Group C with seven points from four matches, while Algeria finished second with six points and a superior goal difference over South Africa, who also had six points but fell short on goals. Guinea ended the group stage in fourth place with four points, while Niger Republic finished bottom with two points.
The tournament continues later today with key group-stage fixtures as Nigeria take on Congo in a game of no significance for the Nigerians, while Sudan face Senegal.
