Chelle drops Nwabali, Ajayi for Four-Nation tourney

By Tosin Omojola –

There may be no place for Super Eagles’ first-choice goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, as Nigeria prepare to participate in the Four-Nation Invitational Tournament billed for Amman, Jordan.

Apart from the goalkeeper, who recently parted ways with his South African club, Chippa United, four other notable players may not be considered when the squad list is drawn up.

If feelers from Super Eagles coach, Eric Sékou Chelle, are anything to go by, Nwabali will not be part of the team due to his inactivity after leaving Chippa United by mutual termination of his contract.

Centre-back Semi Ajayi, who is yet to return from the hamstring injury he picked up at the AFCON, will also be absent from the list.

Tochukwu Nnadi, who recently moved to Marseille in the January transfer window and has yet to play a game, will not be considered either.

It is the same for Ebenezer Akinsamiro, who has lost his place at Italian Serie A side Pisa, where he is on loan from league leaders Inter Milan.

Usman Mohammed of Israeli side Ironi Tiberias, who failed to impress the coach at the AFCON, will also not be part of the team.

The Eagles will commence their campaign against Iran on March 27 at the 17,000-capacity Amman International Stadium before concluding the tournament against Jordan on March 31.
