Chelle unveils 31-man squad for games against Rwanda, South Africa

Nigeria’s head coach, Eric Sekou Chelle, has unveiled a 31-man squad for the Super Eagles’ crucial World Cup qualifiers in September.
Fourth-placed Nigeria face a herculean task in their bid to secure a place in the 2026 Mundial, needing to win all their remaining matches while hoping other contenders slip up to stand a chance of qualification.
The list drawn up by the former Mali national team coach consists of four goalkeepers, nine defenders, seven midfielders, and 11 forwards.
Flying Eagles and CHAN Eagles goalkeeper, Ebenezer Harcourt, is listed alongside first-choice Stanley Nwabali, Amas Obasogie, and Adebayo Adeleye.
The defenders named include William Troost-Ekong, Calvin Bassey, Ola Aina, Bright Osayi-Samuel, Bruno Onyemaechi, Igoh Ogbu, Chidozie Awaziem, Felix Ogu, and Benjamin Fredricks.
The midfielders are Alexander Iwobi, Frank Onyeka, Alhassan Yusuf, Wilfred Ndidi, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Raphael Onyedika, and Christantus Uche.
The forwards include Ademola Lookman, Samuel Chukwueze, Victor Osimhen, Moses Simon, Victor Boniface, Nathan Tella, Cyriel Dessers, Sadiq Umar, Tolu Arokodare, Terem Moffi, and Akor Adams.
The Super Eagles will host Rwanda on September 6 at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, before facing group leaders South Africa in Bloemfontein on September 9.
