China says US attack on Iran has damaged its credibility

China has strongly criticised the United States over its recent military strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities, warning that the attack has severely undermined Washington’s global credibility and could further destabilise the region. The remarks came in response to discussions held at a United Nations Security Council meeting on Sunday.
President Donald Trump confirmed that the U.S. had “obliterated” key Iranian nuclear sites, a move he described as part of a joint operation with Israel—the largest such Western military intervention against Iran since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
During the UN session, China, alongside Russia and Pakistan, backed a draft resolution urging an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in the Middle East. China’s ambassador to the UN, Fu Cong, cautioned against further military escalation and called for restraint, especially from Israel.
“Parties should restrain the impulse of force, avoid exacerbating conflicts and adding fuel to the fire,” Fu said, according to Chinese state broadcaster CCTV. He added that while Iran was significantly hurt by the attacks, “the United States’ credibility was also damaged—both as a country and as a participant in any international negotiations.”
China’s foreign ministry spokesperson, Guo Jiakun, further condemned the strikes, describing the targeting of nuclear facilities under IAEA supervision as a “serious violation” of the UN Charter. He added that China was committed to working with other nations to help restore peace in the Middle East.
China also confirmed the safe evacuation of all Chinese citizens in Iran who wished to leave. Guo said 3,125 citizens, including residents from Hong Kong and Taiwan, had been relocated to safe areas. In Israel, over 500 Chinese nationals were also evacuated.
State media, including the Global Times, labelled the U.S. attack “dangerous and provocative,” warning that external military actions would only deepen regional animosities and trauma.
China reiterated its call for diplomacy, stating that sustainable peace in the Middle East cannot be achieved through military means.
