‘Clear yourself, don’t blame me for your challenges’: Wike replies Bala Mohammed

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed allegations by Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, linking him to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) terrorism financing charge involving the state’s commissioner of finance.
Reacting to the accusation, Wike described the claim as unfounded and politically motivated, saying the Bauchi governor was attempting to blame him for challenges confronting his administration.
“I watched what Governor Bala said — that all the problems he’s having, I’m the one behind them,” Wike said. “He claimed I said I would put fire in his state. If you know I have such power, why are you fighting?”
The FCT minister accused Mohammed of interfering in the internal affairs of his state party, alleging that the Bauchi governor previously attempted to impose party leaders during a visit to Rivers State.
“He came to my state to impose party leaders. I warned him to be careful or else he would see crises,” Wike said, adding that the current political situation in Bauchi was a consequence of ignoring that warning.
Wike also rejected any link to the EFCC investigation, insisting that law enforcement actions should not be politicised.
“Now EFCC is chasing him, and he’s saying it’s me. What is my business?” he said. “If your state is clean, go there and clear yourself.”
The minister further criticised what he described as a pattern of blaming him for political and governance challenges across the country.
“Anybody that has stroke, it’s Wike. The ones with headache, it’s Wike. You’re in Sokoto, it’s Wike. You’re in Taraba, it’s Wike. You’re in Lagos, it’s Wike. You’re in Bauchi, it’s Wike,” he said.
