The Minister of Gas, Ekperikpe Ekpo, has stated that the adoption of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) is here to stay, describing it as a cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional fuels.

Speaking after the Federal Executive Council meeting on Wednesday, Ekpo emphasized the government’s commitment to converting most filling stations across the country to CNG stations.

President Tinubu recently established a Presidential Committee on CNG to spearhead the initiative.

Ekpo also highlighted the significant cost benefits of CNG, noting that while a liter of petrol currently costs around ₦1,000, the equivalent amount of CNG is ₦200, providing substantial savings for consumers.

“The President has tasked us with ensuring the successful implementation of the CNG program, and we are dedicated to making it accessible across the country,” Ekpo said.

He further explained that conversion kits required to switch vehicles to CNG would be available at designated stations as part of the project.

Ekpo also called on the media to support the initiative by spreading awareness and encouraging Nigerians to embrace CNG as a sustainable, cost-effective energy alternative.
