Nigeria’s men’s handball team is just one win away from defending their Africa Men’s Continental Phase title in Ethiopia.
Under the guidance of Coach Emeka Nnamani, the Nigerian team triumphed over Cameroon with a score of 44-33 in a hard-fought semifinal today in Addis Ababa.
Nigeria built an early lead in the first half, using fast breaks and wing plays to secure a 25-15 advantage against a defensively-minded Cameroonian side.
The momentum continued in the second half, with left-back Christian Foloki Bolaji controlling the game. Bolaji scored vital goals from the 9-meter line and from the wings, sealing the victory for Nigeria.
Despite suffering an injury after a collision with Cameroon’s goalkeeper in the final minute, Bolaji was named the match’s Most Valuable Player.
Speaking to HFN Media, Coach Emeka Nnamani praised his team’s resilience and determination. “I am very excited that we did enough to defeat Cameroon in the semifinal,” he said. “The boys did everything possible and fought hard. Now, we will give our best in the final to qualify for the Intercontinental phase.”
Nigeria will face Guinea in the final on Wednesday at 3 p.m. Nigeria time.
