Corruption can’t be eradicated, but it can be minimized – Tinubu
By Kunle Sanni
President Bola Tinubu has acknowledged that while corruption cannot be entirely eradicated, it can be significantly reduced through systemic reforms and proactive measures.
Speaking during his inaugural presidential media chat, Tinubu outlined his administration’s commitment to tackling corruption by addressing structural flaws and promoting transparency.
“Block all the loopholes where anybody can just gain in the system. Part of the anti-corruption measures is the removal of subsidies,” the President stated.
“It is very, very difficult to say you will eliminate it, but you can reduce it to the barest minimum. Meet the people’s needs, help them grow, and support them with the education of their children.”
He emphasized the importance of improving living conditions and wages as a way to discourage corrupt practices.
“There are many anti-corruption mechanisms that can be put in place to help the people not to be corrupt, like paying them good and living wages. I moved the minimum wage from ₦35,000 to ₦70,000; to me, that’s anti-corruption,” Tinubu added.
The President also reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to creating a fair and accountable governance system that prioritizes the welfare of Nigerians while addressing corruption at its roots.
“2025 is a very promising year. Let me first of all thank Nigerians for having confidence in me to be the President of Nigeria. I don’t want you to think that I take you for granted. I am here to serve, and I will do it with all my heart.
“I seek your cooperation. I understand the problems you have been through. It is just 18 months since I took over. The promise is there. We should stay the course and maintain focus; share love with each other. Let us believe in ourselves. Tomorrow will bring a new dawn,” he concluded.
